The Southern Avocas
Also known as The Southern Avoca Males · Southern Sabi Sand, South Africa
c. 2016 – c. 2024
Origin: Avoca Pride, Timbavati, South Africa
The Southern Avocas were two male lions from the Avoca Pride of the Timbavati, beside Kruger National Park, older brothers of the Northern Avocas Dark Mane, Blondie and Mohawk. Followers know them by their looks: one with a larger mane, one with a scar by his eye.
In 2016 the two left their brothers and went south, avoiding the established coalitions of the time, the Birmingham Boys, the last Majingilane and the Mantimahle males. They pushed the young Tsalala males into Kruger and became the males of the Southern and Sand River prides in the southern Sabi Sand, and fended off the young N’waswitshaka (Ndzhenga) males when they first appeared.
Londolozi’s guides wrote in 2024 about the last Southern Avoca male, the end of the coalition.
