Nzuri
Also known as M6 · The Beautiful One
c. 2020/21 – present
Born in Topi Plains, Masai Mara, Kenya
Nzuri, known to guides as M6, is one of the seven Topi Boys of Kenya’s Masai Mara, and probably the most photographed. His name is Swahili for “beautiful” or “good”, and Governors’ Camp guides describe him as one of the most striking male lions not just in the Mara but in the world, for his magnificent flowing mane.
The Topi Boys are seven young males born around 2020–2021, during the Covid years, to lionesses of the Topi Pride on the Topi Plains of Kenya’s Masai Mara. Their fathers were the Sala’s males, Olepolos, Osapuk and Orkitok. In December 2024 the seven pushed the ageing Bila Shaka brothers out of the Musiara Marsh and took over the famous Marsh Pride, and they have since spread to the Paradise Pride and pressed into the Mara Triangle. Guides number them M1 to M7: Ukingo, Otipo, Moja Moja, Kiongozi (Kio), Vuli, Nzuri and Djodjo.
Despite his looks, Nzuri has a reputation for stirring tension: he has repeatedly attacked his brother Vuli and, with Ukingo, chased Kio. Slightly smaller than Ukingo and Djodjo, he has mated with Paradise and Marsh lionesses, including the youngest Marsh lioness, Nusurika.
